CHRISTIAN-WICCAN DIALOGUE: A 20-YEAR INTERFAITH FRIENDSHIP

WORKSHOP SUMMARY
Twenty-two years ago, Don Frew, a Wiccan priest and international spokesperson for indigenous and Neo-Pagan communities, started a dialogue with Brooks Alexander, a committed evangelical Christian who co-founded the Spiritual Counterfeits Project in Berkeley, known for its critique of and opposition to New Age spirituality and new religious movements. Their dialogue developed into a long-term friendship that they will share and talk about.

PRESENTERS
Brooks Alexander and Don Frew

Brooks Alexander was initiated into Transcendental Meditation and lived through the countercultural experience of the Haight Ashbury in the 70s before being converted to Christianity. Subsequently he was one of the founders of the Spiritual Counterfeits Project and the Berkeley Christian Coalition. Brooks and Don Frew’s unlikely friendship spans two decades and is a testament to the improbable friendships that emerge from interfaith dialogue.

Elder Don Frew, a Wiccan priest, is past President of Covenant of the Goddess, the world’s largest Wiccan organization. He has been an interfaith activist for more than 20 years, including eight years on the Interfaith Center at the Presidio Board of Directors. He has also served on United Religion’s Initiative Global Council and the Religious Assembly of the Parliament of the World Religions since 1993. Projects he has initiated include the “Lost and Endangered Religions Project” and “Sacred Spaces – An International Competition.”
